Wiig's origin story, delivered on Good Hang, is that she packed her car and drove to LA because Psychic Mike, a dollar-a-minute reader in a Tucson bookstore, held her ring and told her she should already be there. It is chaotic, a little woo, and completely committed, which is also how Bill Hader describes her comedy in the episode's best outside observation: loose and goofy but never disposable, funny to herself whether or not the room agreed. Wiig confirms it without meaning to, tracing her whole method to Will Forte's early advice to stop writing for what other people would find funny. The detour into Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and her theory that reality TV relaxes precisely because nobody edited it is the same instinct pointed at the couch.
