The circuit, read

Adam Sandler's throughline across both appearances is the same anxiety dressed up in different costumes: he's a guy who cares so much that caring itself becomes the problem. On Rogan, he talks about overprepping for the Netflix special until the joy got squeezed out, bombing in front of Robin Williams and then immediately rewriting the memory to survive it. On New Heights, he's nervous to say the wrong thing near Taylor Swift because she 'means so much to my house.' The self-contradiction worth sitting with is that Sandler has spent thirty years playing the lovable slacker, the guy who doesn't try too hard, and yet every anecdote he tells is about someone who tries so hard he's practically vibrating. The golf detail is the tell: his dad's throwaway line about hips made it into Happy Gilmore because Sandler called home to fact-check a joke. That's not a slacker. The reason it matters is that the whole 'they counted him out' narrative around Sandler has always been a little too easy, and these appearances make clear he's been doing the work the whole time, just loudly enough that everyone missed it.
