'Hook Up with Travis Kelce': Rob Shuter's Advice for Meghan Markle on How to Stay Relevant WATCH NOW↓

Rob Shuter said on The Megyn Kelly Show that Meghan Markle should hook up with Travis Kelce to stay relevant. He meant it as a tabloid grenade, but it came after a much harsher charge: that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the only institution that made them valuable, and now need fresh oxygen from somewhere.

This is the purest form of modern royal commentary, part palace intrigue, part QVC business analysis, part group chat cruelty. Rob Shuter, appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show, wasn’t really making a dating recommendation. He was making a status argument. In his telling, Meghan Markle doesn’t need love. She needs distribution.

They didn’t realize that when they left the family, what they were running away from is the only thing that made them valuable, which is the royal seal.

Rob Shuter, on the episode 1:01

That’s the real claim hiding under the Travis Kelce punchline. Shuter thinks the Sussexes didn’t just quit a family firm. They quit the logo. The palace crest, the balcony, the weird little hats, the whole ancient content machine. Without that, he argues, the commercial projects start looking less like independence and more like merch without licensing rights.

The Kelce joke is a status update

Kelce is not random here. He is the current American symbol of relevance by adjacency, a football star turned celebrity superconductor because Taylor Swift turned his games into pop-cultural state visits. So when Shuter says Meghan should hook up with him, the joke is brutal but legible: if the palace won’t provide the glow, borrow it from the loudest spotlight in the room.

The best thing that Meghan could do is hook up with Travis

Rob Shuter, on the episode 2:22

It’s a cheap line. It is also, annoyingly, a clean diagnosis of how celebrity ecosystems now work. A-listers don’t just date. They merge audiences. They create weather. Shuter’s insult depends on the idea that the Sussexes’ independent brand has not generated enough weather on its own.

Then the argument swerves into Putin

Shuter’s case gets darker fast. He says the Sussexes want to be part-time royals because that would give them the royal benefits without the royal grind, and because royal proximity would make the money easier. Then he jumps from celebrity commerce to geopolitical danger.

The Sussexes are a ticking time bomb. The money’s going to run out.

Rob Shuter, on the episode 1:22

This is where the eyebrow should go up. The Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein precedent gives Shuter’s warning a nasty little skeleton. Royals, ex-royals, and royal-adjacent figures can be targeted by rich creeps who want access, legitimacy, or a photo that says, incorrectly, I belong here. That part is not fantasy.

They will get offers to go to some of the most awful places in the world, and they will be used as puppets.

Rob Shuter, on the episode 1:44

But Shuter offers no evidence in this clip that Prince Harry and Meghan are close to that fate. The royal-seal argument is plausible. The Putin-puppet scenario is cable-panel nitroglycerin. It sounds like a warning, behaves like a dare, and depends on treating future bad judgment as if it has already happened.

Still, the clip explains why the Sussex industrial complex never runs out of fuel. Every brand deal, every family visit, every rumor about reconciliation with the British royal family gets read as evidence in the same case: are Harry and Meghan building something independent, or are they still trying to monetize the thing they say they escaped?

If Shuter is right, the royal story is no longer just a family feud. It’s a brand with a burn rate, hunting for the next borrowed spotlight.

Questions this episode answers
What did Rob Shuter say Meghan Markle should do?
Rob Shuter said Meghan Markle's best move would be to hook up with Travis Kelce. It was a tabloid-style joke, but it sat on top of his larger claim that Meghan and Prince Harry need proximity to status, royalty, or celebrity to keep their brand valuable.
Why did Rob Shuter bring up money and the Sussexes?
Shuter argued that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry lost the main thing that made them commercially valuable when they stepped away from full-time royal life. In his view, the Sussexes still want the privileges of royal association because it helps their business ventures and public image.
Did Rob Shuter really say the Sussexes could be used by Putin?
Yes. Shuter warned that if legitimate money dries up, shady figures could start offering the Sussexes access and funding, and he specifically suggested Vladimir Putin could use them as puppets. That part is more provocation than proven forecast, but it shows how dark his read of their post-royal future is.
